June 3rd was chosen as World Bicycle Day to coincide with the anniversary of the invention of the bicycle's precursor, the "Laufmaschine" or running machine, by Karl Drais in 1817. This date celebrates the bicycle's historical significance and its positive impact on transport, health, and the environment.
