FAQ

Why are they called chickpeas?

The name "chickpea" comes from the Latin word "cicer", which refers to the plant family of legumes, Fabaceae. Chickpeas are also known by their popular Spanish-derived name, "garbanzo bean". Although the two names seem unrelated, they are in fact the same bean, both referring to a plant in the legume category with the scientific name Cicer arietinum. Kidney beans, black beans, lima beans, and peanuts are other familiar foods found in this legume family.
