The Staff Nurse - OT will be responsible for assisting surgeons and anesthetists during procedures, maintaining sterile field, preparing surgical instruments, supporting patient safety, and managing OT nursing documentation. This requires GNM or B.Sc Nursing qualification, OT protocol knowledge, infection control awareness, surgical assistance skills, and coordination with CSSD, anesthesia, surgeons, and recovery teams.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare OT room, surgical trays, instruments, linen, medicines, and consumables before procedures.
- Assist surgeons and anesthetists during surgical procedures as per OT protocols.
- Maintain sterile field, aseptic techniques, and surgical safety standards.
- Support patient shifting, positioning, draping, checklist completion, and procedure preparation.
- Verify surgical consent, patient identity, procedure details, and required investigations.
- Maintain sponge count, instrument count, needle count, and material usage records.
- Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and emergency requirements.
- Follow infection control, biomedical waste, PPE, and OT safety practices.
- Maintain OT nursing documentation, procedure logs, and handover records.
- Assist in post-operative shifting and patient handover to recovery or ward staff.
- Report equipment issues, shortages, or safety concerns to seniors.
- Ensure safe, smooth, and patient-centered OT nursing support.
