Senior Scientific Officer

The Senior Scientific Officer will be responsible for overseeing laboratory test processing, result validation, and interpretation across assigned sections. The involves ensuring adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS), maintaining equipment performance, supporting complex diagnostic investigations, and guiding junior staff to achieve operational excellence and diagnostic accuracy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Ensure strict adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS), SOPs, GLP, and all applicable regulatory standards.
• Perform, supervise, and review diagnostic tests using validated methods and ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
• Validate, interpret, and authorize laboratory reports before final release to clinicians or patients.
• Support consultants and clinicians in complex case investigations and result interpretation.
• Verify patient details, sampleentification, and documentation to prevent errors and ensure traceability.
• Ensure proper sample collection, labeling, handling, storage, and transportation as per defined protocols.
• Coordinate with clinicians for test requirements, special instructions, and critical case handling.
• Oversee preparation and readiness of equipment and reagents for specialized diagnostic investigations.
• Monitor laboratory instruments, perform calibration checks, and ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
• Troubleshoot instrument-related issues and coordinate with service engineers for timely resolution.
• Ensure all unperformed or delayed tests are communicated with proper documentation and justification.
• Maintain and review all laboratory records including QC data, calibration logs, maintenance records, and test registers.
• Manage inventory of reagents, kits, consumables, and ensure proper storage conditions and stock levels.
• Inspect incoming materials and ensure compliance with quality specifications before use.
• Oversee biomedical waste segregation, disposal, and compliance with safety and environmental guidelines.
• Lead investigations for deviations, errors, or non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Ensure continuous audit readiness and actively participate in internal and external audits.
• Maintain data integrity and confidentiality of patient information and laboratory reports.
• Guide, train, and supervise junior staff to ensure competency, efficiency, and adherence to SOPs.
• Align team activities with consultantectives and laboratory priorities.
• Monitor laboratory KPIs such as turnaround time (TAT), accuracy, and productivity.
• entify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices for operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation processes (e.g., NABL).
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, discipline, and professionalism within the laboratory.
