Senior Resident/Associate Consultant - Critical Care & Anesthesia

The Senior Resident/Associate Consultant – Critical Care & Anesthesia is responsible for delivering comprehensive critical care services, managing ICU patients, and providing anesthesia support for surgical procedures. This requires strong clinical expertise, quick decision-making, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations in a multidisciplinary environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Manage critically ill patients in ICU, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Administer various types of anesthesia (general, regional, and local) for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor patients intra-operatively and post-operatively to ensure stability and safety.
• Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and life support equipment.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, including code blue situations and resuscitation procedures.
• Conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations and risk assessments for surgical patients.
• Provide post-anesthesia care and monitor recovery in ICU or recovery units.
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care.
• Perform invasive procedures such as central line insertion, arterial line placement, and intubation.
• Interpret laboratory and diagnostic results to guide clinical decisions.
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety standards.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records, anesthesia notes, and ICU charts.
• Manage pain relief and sedation protocols for ICU and post-operative patients.
• Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and clinical meetings.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and accreditation processes.
• Stay updated with advancements in critical care medicine and anesthesia practices.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate effectively with patients’ families regarding patient condition and treatment plans.
• Handle medico-legal cases with proper documentation and adherence to guidelines.
• Participate in teaching, training, and academic activities when required.

• Work in rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties.
