OT Technician

The OT Technician plays a critical in the smooth functioning of the operation theatre by assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures. This requires technical expertise, precision, and adherence to infection control protocols in a high-pressure clinical environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain the operation theatre before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterilized and ready for use.
• Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgeries.
• Arrange and set up surgical instruments and equipment as per procedure requirements.
• Check and maintain functionality of OT equipment such as monitors, lights, suction, and anesthesia machines.
• Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
• Assist in patient positioning, preparation, and transfer to and from the OT.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness and sterility of the operation theatre environment.
• Handle and manage surgical instruments carefully during procedures.
• Count surgical instruments, sponges, and supplies before and after procedures to ensure accuracy.
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilization and availability of instruments.
• Maintain inventory of OT supplies and ensure timely replenishment.
• Assist in emergency and trauma surgeries with quick response and readiness.
• Ensure proper documentation of OT procedures and equipment usage.
• Follow safety protocols including handling of sharps and hazardous materials.
• Coordinate with biomedical teams for equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Support surgeons with required instruments promptly during procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure respectful handling at all times.
• Assist in preparing OT schedules and ensure readiness for planned surgeries.
• Participate in infection control and quality assurance programs.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain calmness and efficiency in high-pressure surgical situations.
• Support training of junior staff and new team members when required.
• Contribute to maintaining high standards of surgical care and patient safety.
