Perfusionist

The Perfusionist will be responsible for operating heart-lung machines and supporting cardiopulmonary bypass procedures during cardiac surgeries. This requires technical expertise in perfusion technology, blood circulation support, oxygenation, anticoagulation monitoring, and cardiac surgical coordination. The candidate will work closely with CVTS surgeons, cardiac anesthetists, ICU teams, and OT staff to ensure safe perfusion support and optimal patient outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Operate heart-lung machines and perfusion equipment during cardiac surgical procedures.
• Prepare, prime, and check cardiopulmonary bypass circuits before surgery.
• Monitor blood flow, pressure, oxygenation, temperature, anticoagulation, and perfusion parameters.
• Coordinate with cardiac surgeons and anesthetists during bypass initiation, maintenance, and weaning.
• Manage perfusion support for cardiac, vascular, and emergency surgical procedures as required.
• Maintain accurate perfusion records, equipment logs, and procedure documentation.
• Ensure availability and readiness of oxygenators, tubing sets, pumps, cannulas, and consumables.
• Follow infection control, OT safety, blood handling, and anticoagulation protocols.
• Support intra-aortic balloon pump, ECMO, or other circulatory support systems if trained and assigned.
• Respond quickly to perfusion-related emergencies and equipment issues during surgery.
• Coordinate with biomedical, stores, OT, ICU, and surgical teams for equipment and material readiness.
• Perform cleaning, maintenance checks, and functional testing of perfusion equipment.
• Maintain stock of perfusion consumables and report shortages in advance.
• Participate in cardiac OT audits, quality improvement, and patient safety activities.
• Contribute to safe cardiac surgical outcomes through accurate and controlled perfusion management.
