Liver Transplant Surgeon

The Liver Transplant Surgeon will be responsible for evaluating patients for liver transplantation, performing transplant surgeries, and managing pre-operative and post-operative care. This requires exceptional surgical expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, and adherence to strict clinical and regulatory standards in transplant medicine.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate patients for liver transplantation, including detailed clinical assessment and eligibility determination.
• Perform living donor and deceased donor liver transplant surgeries with high precision.
• Manage complex hepatobiliary surgical cases including liver resections and related procedures.
• Provide pre-operative counseling to patients and donors, explaining risks, benefits, and outcomes.
• Obtain informed consent and ensure ethical compliance in transplant procedures.
• Oversee perioperative care and ensure patient stability during surgical procedures.
• Manage post-operative care, monitor recovery, and handle complications effectively.
• Collaborate with hepatologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and transplant coordinators.
• Participate in multidisciplinary transplant board meetings and case discussions.
• Ensure adherence to transplant protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
• Monitor immunosuppressive therapy and coordinate long-term follow-up care.
• Maintain accurate and detailed clinical documentation, surgical notes, and transplant records.
• Ensure compliance with national transplant regulations and legal requirements.
• Supervise and mentor junior surgeons, residents, and surgical teams.
• Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to research, publications, and academic activities in transplant surgery.
• Stay updated with advancements in transplant techniques and surgical innovations.
• Coordinate with organ procurement organizations for donor management and logistics.
• Participate in organ retrieval and donor surgeries when required.
• Ensure proper donor evaluation and safety in living donor transplant cases.
• Promote awareness and education about organ donation and transplantation.
• Handle medico-legal cases with proper documentation and adherence to guidelines.
• Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources while maintaining high-quality care.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards at all times.
• Support the development and expansion of the liver transplant program within the hospital.
• Promote a culture of excellence, teamwork, and patient-centric care.
