Infection Control Nurse ICN

The Infection Control Nurse will be responsible for implementing infection prevention and control practices across hospital departments to ensure patient safety, staff safety, and regulatory compliance. This involves surveillance of hospital-acquired infections, staff training, audit participation, biomedical waste monitoring, outbreak prevention, and coordination with clinical teams. The candidate should have strong nursing knowledge, infection control understanding, documentation skills, and the ability to promote safe healthcare practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and implement infection prevention and control practices across hospital departments.
• Conduct routine surveillance for hospital-acquired infections and report findings to management.
• Perform infection control rounds in wards, ICU, OT, emergency, OPD, and diagnostic areas.
• Educate nurses, doctors, housekeeping staff, and support teams on infection control protocols.
• Monitor hand hygiene compliance and conduct awareness activities for healthcare staff.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment as per hospital infection control guidelines.
• Supervise biomedical waste segregation, handling, storage, and disposal practices.
• Assist in developing and updating infection control policies, SOPs, and checklists.
• Investigate infection outbreaks, needle-stick injuries, and exposure incidents with the clinical team.
• Maintain infection control records, audit reports, surveillance data, and training documentation.
• Coordinate with microbiology, nursing, housekeeping, CSSD, OT, ICU, and quality teams.
• Monitor sterilization, disinfection, cleaning, and environmental hygiene practices.
• Support implementation of isolation precautions for infectious or high-risk patients.
• Participate in hospital audits, NABH preparation, quality improvement, and safety initiatives.
• Promote a culture of patient safety, hygiene, and infection prevention across the hospital.
