Phlebotomist

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and other diagnostic samples from patients, ensuring proper labeling, sample handling, patient comfort, and safe transport to the laboratory. This requires DMLT, phlebotomy certification, or relevant qualification, good communication skills, infection control awareness, and careful patient handling. The candidate will support accurate diagnostic testing through safe and professional sample collection.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using safe and approved phlebotomy techniques.
• Verify patient identity, test request, sample type, and collection requirements before collection.
• Label samples accurately with patient details, barcode, date, and time of collection.
• Follow correct tube selection, order of draw, sample volume, and handling procedures.
• Provide patient-friendly communication and comfort during sample collection.
• Handle pediatric, elderly, difficult-vein, or anxious patients with patience and care.
• Maintain sample collection records, registers, and daily collection documentation.
• Follow infection control, hand hygiene, PPE, sharps safety, and biomedical waste protocols.
• Prepare and organize collection trays, vacutainers, needles, swabs, and consumables.
• Ensure proper storage and timely transport of samples to the laboratory.
• Report sample rejection risks, hemolysis, insufficient sample, or patient issues to seniors.
• Support home collection or camp collection activities when assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the sample collection area.
• Coordinate with lab, reception, billing, and home collection teams.
• Ensure safe, accurate, and patient-centered diagnostic sample collection.
