Blood Bank Technician

The Blood Bank Technician is responsible for blood collection support, sample processing, blood grouping, cross-matching, component handling, storage monitoring, and documentation within the hospital blood bank. The requires technical knowledge, accuracy, safety awareness, and compliance with blood bank protocols. The candidate should ensure safe blood handling, proper testing, quality control, and timely support for patient transfusion requirements.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Perform blood grouping, cross-matching, screening, and compatibility testing.
• Assist in blood collection, donor preparation, and donor documentation processes.
• Handle blood bags, samples, reagents, and components as per standard protocols.
• Maintain proper storage temperature and monitor blood bank equipment regularly.
• Ensure accurate labeling, identification, and traceability of blood units and samples.
• Support component separation, inventory management, and stock verification.
• Follow infection control, biomedical waste, and safety guidelines strictly.
• Maintain blood bank registers, test records, issue records, and quality documents.
• Report abnormal findings, transfusion concerns, or technical issues to seniors.
• Coordinate with wards, ICU, OT, emergency, and laboratory teams for blood requirements.
• Perform routine quality control checks for reagents, equipment, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with blood bank regulations and hospital SOPs.
• Maintain confidentiality of donor and patient information.
• Support emergency blood issue procedures with speed and accuracy.
