Duty Doctor

Duty Doctor is responsible for providing continuous medical care to patients in OPD, IPD, emergency, and ward areas. The includes patient assessment, clinical monitoring, emergency response, treatment coordination, and accurate medical documentation. The Duty Doctor works closely with consultants, nurses, and support teams to ensure timely diagnosis, safe treatment, patient comfort, and smooth hospital care delivery during assigned duty hours.

Role & Responsibilities

• Examine patients in OPD, IPD, emergency, and ward areas as per hospital duty requirements.
• Take detailed patient history, perform clinical assessments, and record medical findings accurately.
• Provide initial treatment, medication advice, and emergency medical support as per hospital protocols.
• Monitor admitted patients and update treatment charts, progress notes, and clinical records regularly.
• Coordinate with consultants and specialists for patient treatment plans and further medical decisions.
• Attend emergency cases and provide immediate stabilization before consultant review or referral.
• Review investigation reports and communicate important findings to consultants and nursing teams.
• Assist in patient admission, transfer, discharge planning, and clinical documentation.
• Ensure proper handover and takeover of patients during shift changes.
• Communicate with patients and relatives regarding condition updates, treatment instructions, and basic care guidance.
• Supervise nursing staff for medication administration, patient monitoring, and care execution.
• Follow hospital infection control, patient safety, medico-legal, and emergency care protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
• Report critical cases, complications, or unusual clinical findings to senior doctors immediately.
• Support smooth coordination between emergency, ward, ICU, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and administration teams.
