Associate Consultant - General Surgery

The Associate Consultant General Surgery will provide general surgery consultation, procedure planning, emergency surgical care, post-operative management, and clinical documentation at Fortis, Chennai. This requires MBBS with MS or DNB in General Surgery with 1–5 years of experience.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients requiring surgical consultation, operative care, or emergency intervention.
• Plan investigations, surgical preparation, consent, and treatment pathway.
• Assist or perform surgeries according to experience, hospital privileges, and consultant guidance.
• Monitor post-operative recovery, wound healing, pain control, bleeding, and infection risk.
• Coordinate with OT, ICU, anaesthesia, nurses, diagnostics, pharmacy, and billing teams.
• Provide patient counselling on surgery, risks, recovery, diet, and follow-up care.
• Maintain operative notes, consultation records, consent documentation, and discharge advice.
• Support emergency surgical decision-making and timely patient movement.
• Follow surgical safety checklist, infection control, and ethical standards.
• Ensure safe, structured, and patient-friendly surgical services.
