The OT Staff Nurse will be responsible for assisting surgeons and anesthetists during surgical procedures, preparing sterile instruments, maintaining OT hygiene, supporting patient preparation, and ensuring safe surgical care. This requires knowledge of operation theatre protocols, aseptic techniques, surgical equipment, documentation, and infection control. The candidate will support smooth OT functioning and patient safety during procedures.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare OT room, sterile instruments, surgical trays, and consumables before procedures.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and OT team during surgical procedures.
- Maintain sterile field, aseptic technique, and infection control practices inside OT.
- Support patient shifting, positioning, draping, and pre-operative checklist completion.
- Check availability of surgical sets, medicines, sutures, implants, linen, and emergency items.
- Maintain sponge count, needle count, instrument count, and surgical material reconciliation.
- Assist in handling instruments and supplies during surgery as per procedure need.
- Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and timely supply of surgical materials.
- Maintain OT procedure records, nursing notes, material usage, and handover documentation.
- Support post-operative patient transfer with proper clinical handover.
- Follow biomedical waste segregation, PPE usage, and OT safety protocols.
- Report equipment issues, material shortages, or patient safety concerns to seniors.
- Assist in OT cleaning, disinfection, room turnover, and procedure readiness.
- Maintain discipline, cleanliness, confidentiality, and professional communication.
- Ensure safe, smooth, and patient-centered surgical nursing support.
