Resident Medical Officer – ICU / NICU / Wards

The Resident Medical Officer will be responsible for assessing and managing inpatients in ICU, NICU, and wards, coordinating with consultants and allied departments, ensuring timely clinical interventions, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting emergency care services. The requires strong clinical judgment, quick decision-making, and the ability to manage critical and non-critical patients efficiently while ensuring continuity of care.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform clinical assessment of inpatients referred to ICU, NICU, and ward services.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor acutely ill and critical patients.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and provide initial stabilization and treatment.
• Coordinate with consultants for patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Monitor patient progress and update treatment plans as required.
• Check laboratory reports and immediately inform consultants for necessary actions.
• Coordinate with OT, laboratory, blood bank, and radiology for investigations and treatments.
• Prepare and update patient case records, progress notes, and clinical documentation.
• Prepare drug charts in consultation with consultants and ensure timely medication administration.
• Supervise and ensure proper nursing care and compliance with treatment protocols.
• Assist in pre-operative assessments, admissions, and outpatient clinics when required.
• Prepare discharge summaries and ensure completion of all discharge formalities.
• Prescribe take-home medications as per consultant instructions and hospital policies.
• Ensure proper handover communication to oncoming medical staff during shift changes.
• Attend Code Blue situations and manage emergency resuscitation cases.
• Respond to ambulance calls and emergency admissions efficiently.
• Ensure coordination with multidisciplinary teams for seamless patient care.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation.
• Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, clinical guidelines, and safety standards.
• Participate in ward management, patient monitoring, and clinical decision support.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by hospital management.
• Uphold professionalism, ethics, patient safety, and confidentiality at all times.
