Microbiologist

The Microbiologist  will be responsible for conducting microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and ensuring sterility assurance across manufacturing and laboratory environments. The involves handling microbial analysis, maintaining documentation, supporting validation activities, and ensuring adherence to cGMP, GLP, and regulatory requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform microbiological analysis of raw materials, water samples, in-process samples, and finished products as per approved specifications and SOPs.
• Conduct environmental monitoring of cleanrooms, production areas, and laboratory zones including air, surface, and personnel monitoring.
• Perform microbial limit tests, sterility testing, endotoxin testing (BET), and culture-based assays.
• Prepare and maintain culture media, reagents, and microbial strains as per standard procedures.
• Operate and maintain microbiological equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, laminar air flow units, air samplers, and colony counters.
• Ensure proper calibration, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and maintenance of microbiology instruments and equipment.
• Record and review microbiological data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Ensure adherence to cGMP guidelines and data integrity (ALCOA+) principles in all microbiological activities.
• Monitor environmental trends, analyze results, and report any deviations or abnormal findings.
• Investigate Out of Specification (OOS), Out of Trend (OOT), and contamination incidents and support root cause analysis (RCA) and CAPA implementation.
• Maintain microbiology-related documentation including logbooks, registers, worksheets, and reports.
• Support cleaning validation, water system monitoring, and sterilization validation activities.
• Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of microbiological waste as per EHS guidelines.
• Coordinate with QA and Production teams to ensure compliance with microbiological standards.
• Participate in internal and external audits and ensure audit readiness of microbiology laboratory.
• Maintain aseptic practices and ensure proper gowning and hygiene procedures in controlled environments.
• Perform trend analysis and generate periodic reports for management review.
• Ensure availability and proper inventory management of microbiological consumables and media.
• Assist in method validation, method transfer, and verification of microbiological methods.
• Train and guide junior staff on microbiological techniques and laboratory practices.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as USFDA, WHO, EU-GMP, and other applicable guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness, discipline, and safety in the microbiology laboratory.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance microbiological control and quality systems.
