OT Technician

The OT Technician is responsible for assisting in surgical procedures, preparing operation theatres, and ensuring the availability and functionality of all surgical instruments and equipment. This requires technical expertise, precision, and adherence to infection control and safety protocols in a high-pressure clinical environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and set up the operation theatre prior to surgeries, ensuring readiness of instruments and equipment.
• Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain aseptic conditions in the OT at all times.
• Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
• Arrange surgical instruments and equipment as per procedure requirements.
• Check and ensure proper functioning of OT equipment such as monitors, lights, suction units, and anesthesia machines.
• Assist in patient preparation including positioning, draping, and transfer to and from the OT.
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols and sterilization standards.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness and hygiene within the operation theatre.
• Handle surgical instruments carefully and ensure proper usage during procedures.
• Conduct instrument and sponge counts before, during, and after surgeries.
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilization and timely availability of instruments.
• Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and ensure timely replenishment.
• Assist in emergency and trauma surgeries with quick response and preparedness.
• Ensure proper documentation related to OT procedures and equipment usage.
• Follow safety protocols including handling of sharps and hazardous materials.
• Coordinate with biomedical engineers for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Support surgeons by providing required instruments promptly during procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure respectful handling at all times.
• Assist in scheduling and preparation for planned surgeries.
• Participate in infection control programs and quality assurance initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain calmness, focus, and efficiency during high-pressure situations.
• Support training of junior staff and new team members when required.
• Contribute to maintaining high standards of surgical care and patient safety.
