Senior Consultant – Anaesthesia

The Senior Consultant – Anaesthesia will play a critical leadership in managing anesthesia services for a wide range of surgical procedures. This includes pre-operative assessment, intra-operative anesthesia administration, and post-operative care. The demands strong clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to handle complex and high-risk cases.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthetic evaluations including medical history, physical examination, and risk assessment.
• Develop and implement individualized anesthesia plans based on patient condition and surgical requirements.
• Administer general, regional, and local anesthesia as well as sedation techniques.
• Monitor vital parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and ventilation during procedures.
• Manage airway procedures including intubation, ventilation, and extubation.
• Handle high-risk and complex surgical cases, ensuring patient safety at all times.
• Respond promptly to intra-operative complications and medical emergencies.
• Provide post-operative care including pain management and monitoring recovery from anesthesia.
• Supervise and guide junior anesthetists, residents, and OT staff.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, and nursing teams for coordinated patient care.
• Ensure proper functioning, maintenance, and calibration of anesthesia equipment.
• Maintain accurate and detailed anesthesia records and clinical documentation.
• Ensure adherence to infection control practices, patient safety protocols, and hospital guidelines.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, and clinical audits.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to accreditation processes.
• Stay updated with advancements in anesthesia techniques, drugs, and technologies.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior doctors and medical staff.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding anesthesia procedures and risks.
• Handle medico-legal cases with appropriate documentation and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, ethical practices, and hospital policies.
• Optimize resource utilization and contribute to efficient OT operations.
• Participate in emergency and on-call duties as required.
