Job Description
Consultant - General Ophthalmology is responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of common ocular conditions. The involves conducting eye examinations, managing outpatient clinics, performing routine ophthalmic procedures, and ensuring high-quality patient care in compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and diagnose common ocular diseases and refractive errors.
- Review patient medical history and provide accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Manage outpatient clinics and handle follow-up patient consultations.
- Diagnose and treat conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, infections, uveitis, and ocular surface disorders.
- Perform routine ophthalmic procedures and surgeries as per clinical competency.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for ophthalmic surgical patients.
- Prescribe and monitor medical treatments including topical and systemic medications.
- Refer complex cases to super-specialists when required for advanced management.
- Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic nurses, and multidisciplinary teams for coordinated care.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records, clinical documentation, and patient reports.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and preventive eye care.
- Obtain informed consent and ensure proper patient counselling before procedures.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and CME activities.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital protocols, and ethical medical practices.
- Stay updated with advancements in ophthalmology and incorporate best clinical practices.
- Maintain professionalism, patient safety, and high standards of clinical care at all times.
