Staff Nurse for Ward

The Staff Nurse – Ward will play a vital in monitoring patient health, administering medications and treatments, and supporting doctors in providing effective care. This requires strong clinical knowledge, patient-handling skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment. The candidate must ensure proper documentation, infection control, patient safety, and adherence to hospital protocols and quality standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to admitted patients in the ward.
• Monitor patient conditions, vital signs, and overall progress regularly.
• Prepare and implement individualized nursing care plans for patients.
• Administer medications, injections, IV fluids, and treatments as prescribed.
• Ensure adherence to medication safety protocols and the “10 Rights” of medication administration.
• Assist doctors during rounds, examinations, and medical procedures.
• Carry out doctors’ orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Ensure all prescribed investigations are conducted and reports are available promptly.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records, charts, and nursing documentation.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications and report immediately.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
• Assist in wound care, dressings, catheter care, and other bedside procedures.
• Ensure patient hygiene, comfort, mobility, and emotional well-being.
• Educate patients and attendants regarding treatment plans, medications, and home care instructions.
• Maintain strict infection control practices and hand hygiene protocols.
• Ensure biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per guidelines.
• Coordinate with laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and support departments for patient care.
• Handle emergency situations calmly and assist in resuscitation when required.
• Ensure proper handover and takeover during shift changes.
• Maintain inventory of ward supplies and ensure availability of essential items.
• Follow NABH standards, hospital policies, and nursing protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical nursing practices.
• Ensure patient safety measures such as fall prevention and pressure sore prevention are implemented.
• Support patient discharge processes and provide discharge education.
• Participate in audits, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the ward environment.
• Work efficiently in rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and teamwork in patient care delivery.
• Stay updated with nursing practices, procedures, and clinical advancements.
• Contribute to improving patient outcomes, satisfaction, and quality of care.
