Senior Executive - Registered Nurse - NICU

The Executive – Registered Nurse (LDR) is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to expectant mothers before, during, and after childbirth. The requires close coordination with obstetricians and healthcare teams, monitoring labor progression, assisting in delivery, and ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and newborn while adhering to clinical protocols and hospital standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Take detailed handover from outgoing staff and ensure continuity of patient care.
• Perform inventory checks of instruments, medications, and supplies in the labour room.
• Assess patient condition by collecting medical history, symptoms, and vital parameters.
• Monitor patients throughout pre-labor, active labor, and post-delivery phases.
• Observe and record contractions, fetal heart rate, and labor progression.
• Assist patients with breathing exercises, pain management, and comfort techniques.
• Provide basic life support and stabilize patients in emergency situations.
• entify abnormal signs from monitoring equipment and initiate corrective actions.
• Attend to patients on arrival and prioritize care based on clinical condition.
• Assist consultants and registrars during examinations and delivery procedures.
• Communicate patient status and progress to doctors and family members appropriately.
• Prepare, administer, and document medications as per hospital policies (LASA, narcotics, verbal orders).
• Perform cervical assessments, NST monitoring, and track labor progression.
• Prepare patients for delivery and ensure proper positioning during childbirth.
• Assist in maintaining sterile field and provide instruments during delivery.
• Ensure immediate care of the newborn as per neonatal protocols.
• Maintain and monitor availability and functionality of medical equipment.
• Report equipment issues or shortages to senior nursing staff promptly.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete nursing documentation.
• Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols in the labour room.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for seamless patient care.
• Manage multiple critical tasks efficiently while maintaining professionalism.
• Participate in emergency drills and obstetric emergency management.
• Support post-delivery care and transition of mother and baby to recovery/ward.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical guidelines.
• Participate in audits, training, and continuous nursing education programs.
• Uphold patient confidentiality, empathy, and ethical nursing practices at all times.
