Job Description

Staff Specialist - Critical Care Medicine is responsible for providing advanced medical care to critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units and emergency care settings. The involves diagnosing and managing life-threatening conditions, supervising critical care treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical care.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients admitted to ICU and critical care units.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, clinical status, and response to treatment continuously.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive critical care treatment plans.
  • Manage patients requiring ventilator support, hemodynamic monitoring, and life-support systems.
  • Handle medical emergencies, resuscitation procedures, and critical interventions promptly.
  • Conduct daily ICU rounds and coordinate patient management with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff in critical care management.
  • Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging reports, and diagnostic findings for clinical decision-making.
  • Perform critical care procedures such as central line insertion, intubation, arterial line placement, and related interventions when required.
  • Coordinate with specialists, surgeons, anesthetists, and other departments for comprehensive patient care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Counsel patient families regarding patient condition, prognosis, and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
  • Monitor medication management, sedation protocols, and critical care therapies.
  • Participate in emergency response teams and rapid response activities within the hospital.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and medical information.
  • Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated with advancements in critical care medicine, ICU protocols, and evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in academic sessions, case discussions, CME programs, and training activities.
  • Maintain professionalism, ethical standards, and compassionate patient care at all times.
  • Perform additional critical care and administrative responsibilities assigned by hospital management or senior consultants.
