Job Description
Duty Medical Officer is responsible for providing continuous medical care, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring smooth clinical operations within the hospital. The involves conducting patient rounds, coordinating with consultants and referral doctors, maintaining accurate medical documentation, monitoring critically ill patients, and ensuring timely follow-up of investigations and treatments.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper handover and takeover of patient information during shift changes.
- Conduct regular patient rounds with consultants and referral doctors when required.
- Visit admitted patients regularly and perform routine clinical assessments based on patient condition.
- Monitor patient vitals, clinical progress, and response to treatment continuously.
- Ensure adequate and accurate documentation of patient records and treatment details.
- Initiate and update admission records, progress notes, discharge summaries, operation notes, and death summaries.
- Review patient case sheets and ensure there are no pending investigations, reports, or procedures.
- Follow up on laboratory investigations, diagnostic reports, and treatment recommendations.
- Attend to patient complaints, concerns, and medical issues promptly and professionally.
- Remain available in the ward for continuous patient monitoring and clinical support.
- Ensure continuous monitoring and timely management of critically ill and high-risk patients.
- Inform senior doctors and consultants regarding significant changes in patient condition.
- Obtain approval from treating consultants before prescribing additional medications or modifying treatment plans.
- Coordinate with nursing staff and other departments for smooth patient care and ward management.
- Handle emergency medical situations and provide immediate medical intervention when required.
- Ensure compliance with hospital clinical protocols, patient safety guidelines, and infection control practices.
- Maintain accurate medical records, patient documentation, and treatment updates.
- Support patient admission, discharge, referral, and transfer procedures efficiently.
- Participate in emergency response activities and rapid clinical decision-making processes.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information and maintain professional ethics at all times.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Report all relevant clinical, operational, and patient-related issues to the concerned authorities promptly.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, consultants, and healthcare teams.
- Follow hospital policies, SOPs, NABH standards, and regulatory guidelines consistently.
- Perform additional clinical and administrative responsibilities assigned by management or senior consultants.
