Resident Medical Officer - Ward

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) – Ward is responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of admitted patients, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up care under the guidance of senior consultants. This requires strong clinical knowledge, prompt decision-making skills, and the ability to handle patient care in a dynamic hospital environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular ward rounds and assess patient conditions, documenting clinical findings accurately.
• Monitor vital signs, progress, and response to treatment for all assigned patients.
• Implement treatment plans asected by consultants and ensure timely execution of medical orders.
• Respond promptly to patient emergencies and clinical deterioration within the ward.
• Coordinate with consultants, specialists, and nursing staff for comprehensive patient care.
• Review laboratory and diagnostic reports and take appropriate clinical actions.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and interventions as per hospital protocols and clinical guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, case sheets, and progress notes.
• Ensure proper documentation for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding clinical status and treatment plans.
• Assist in pre-operative and post-operative patient management when required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and case reviews.
• Ensure adherence to infection control practices and patient safety protocols.
• Handle medico-legal cases and maintain proper documentation as per guidelines.
• Coordinate with emergency, ICU, and other departments for patient transfers when necessary.
• Ensure rational use of medications, investigations, and hospital resources.
• Supervise and guide junior medical staff, interns, and nursing teams when required.
• Attend and manage code blue or emergency calls within the hospital premises.
• Participate in audits, clinical meetings, and continuous medical education programs.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
• Assist in discharge planning, summary preparation, and follow-up care instructions.
• Monitor patient satisfaction and address clinical concerns promptly.
• Work in rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in patient care quality and clinical outcomes.
