OT Nursing Staff

OT Nursing Staff is responsible for supporting surgical procedures by preparing the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anesthetists, maintaining sterile conditions, and ensuring patient safety before, during, and after surgery. The requires strong knowledge of OT protocols, surgical instruments, infection control practices, emergency response, and patient care standards. OT Nursing Staff plays a vital in smooth theatre operations and quality surgical outcomes.

Role & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operation theatre before scheduled and emergency surgeries as per hospital protocols.
• Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, and sterile supplies are available and ready for use.
• Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and senior nursing staff during surgical procedures.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards inside the operation theatre.
• Verify patient identity, consent forms, surgical site marking, investigation reports, and pre-operative checklist before surgery.
• Monitor patient condition before, during, and immediately after surgical procedures.
• Handle surgical instruments carefully and assist in instrument counting before and after procedures.
• Support anesthesia team during induction, positioning, monitoring, and recovery of patients.
• Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and arrangement of OT equipment and instruments.
• Maintain OT records, surgical registers, patient documentation, inventory logs, and procedure-related data accurately.
• Coordinate with CSSD, pharmacy, ward, ICU, and recovery room teams for smooth patient and material movement.
• Follow biomedical waste management guidelines and dispose of surgical waste safely.
• Report equipment malfunction, shortage of supplies, patient complications, or safety concerns to the concerned authority.
• Assist in emergency surgeries, code blue situations, and critical patient handling when required.
• Maintain patient dignity, privacy, comfort, and safety throughout the surgical care process.
