Optometrist

Optometrist is responsible for providing comprehensive primary eye care services, including vision assessment, detection of refractive errors, and identification of common ocular conditions. The involves conducting detailed eye examinations, performing preliminary diagnostic tests, assisting in patient management, and coordinating with ophthalmologists to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed eye examinations including visual acuity, refraction, binocular vision, and color vision testing.
• Perform preliminary diagnostic tests such as slit-lamp examination, tonometry, keratometry, and fundus evaluation as per scope of practice.
• Identify and manage refractive errors and common eye conditions.
• Refer complex ocular cases to ophthalmologists for further evaluation and treatment.
• Assist in pre-operative and post-operative patient assessment and counseling.
• Prescribe, dispense, and fit spectacles and contact lenses as per patient requirements.
• Provide guidance on contact lens usage, care, and follow-up management.
• Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation as per hospital protocols.
• Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, SOPs, and quality standards.
• Participate in vision screening camps, outreach programs, and community eye health initiatives.
• Educate patients on eye care, vision hygiene, and preventive practices.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists, nurses, technicians, and counselors for coordinated patient care.
• Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and hygiene of optical and diagnostic equipment.
• Follow infection control protocols and maintain a safe clinical environment.
• Support patient flow management and ensure efficient clinic operations.
• Perform additional optometry and patient care responsibilities assigned by management or supervisors.
