Job Description
Pediatric Optometrist is responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services to infants, children, and adolescents. The involves performing detailed pediatric eye examinations, diagnosing and managing visual disorders, supporting pediatric ophthalmology services, and ensuring accurate vision assessment and treatment planning for young patients.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive pediatric eye examinations including visual acuity testing, refraction, and binocular vision assessment.
- Diagnose and manage pediatric eye conditions such as refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus, and binocular vision anomalies.
- Conduct cycloplegic refraction for accurate assessment of refractive status in children.
- Assist in pre-operative and post-operative evaluations for pediatric ophthalmic cases.
- Prescribe and dispense corrective lenses and advise on appropriate contact lens usage.
- Provide vision therapy support and rehabilitation guidance for pediatric patients.
- Assist pediatric ophthalmologists during outpatient clinics and procedures when required.
- Educate parents and caregivers about eye health, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in hospital management systems.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection control, and quality standards.
- Support early detection programs and pediatric vision screening initiatives.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust optical correction or therapy as needed.
- Coordinate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and healthcare staff for comprehensive care.
- Participate in community outreach programs and pediatric eye health awareness camps.
- Maintain professionalism, empathy, and child-friendly communication during patient interactions.
- Perform additional pediatric optometry and patient care responsibilities assigned by management or supervisors.
