Billing Counsellor

The Billing Counsellor will be responsible for guiding patients and attendants regarding hospital billing, estimated costs, packages, payment options, insurance requirements, and discharge billing processes. This requires strong communication skills, billing knowledge, empathy, and coordination with clinical, finance, TPA, and admission teams. The candidate will ensure transparent billing communication, timely clarification of charges, and a smooth financial counseling experience for patients.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Explain hospital billing process, estimated treatment costs, packages, and payment options to patients.
• Counsel patients and attendants regarding admission deposits, procedure charges, billing updates, and discharge billing.
• Coordinate with doctors, nursing, billing, finance, insurance, and admission teams for cost-related information.
• Verify patient billing details, service entries, tariff applicability, discounts, and approvals when required.
• Assist patients with cash, card, UPI, insurance, corporate, or TPA billing-related queries.
• Maintain clear communication regarding pending payments, package inclusions, exclusions, and additional charges.
• Support discharge counseling by explaining final bill, payments, refunds, and pending documentation.
• Handle patient billing concerns professionally and escalate complex issues to senior billing staff.
• Maintain counseling records, billing communication notes, and patient financial discussion details.
• Coordinate with TPA or insurance teams for claim-related guidance when required.
• Ensure billing information is communicated ethically, transparently, and respectfully.
• Prepare daily counseling reports, pending payment updates, and patient query summaries.
• Identify billing gaps, patient confusion areas, and improvement opportunities in communication.
• Follow hospital billing policies, confidentiality standards, and patient service protocols.
• Contribute to improved patient trust, billing transparency, and smoother discharge experience.
