Blood Collection Technician

The Blood Collection Technician will be responsible for collecting blood samples, verifying patient details, labeling specimens, maintaining sample quality, and coordinating with laboratory teams. This requires DMLT or B.Sc MLT qualification, phlebotomy skills, infection control awareness, patient handling ability, and attention to sample accuracy.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using proper phlebotomy techniques.
• Verify patient identity, test requisition, and sample requirements before collection.
• Label samples accurately with barcode, patient details, and collection time.
• Handle vacutainers, syringes, needles, and collection materials safely.
• Follow infection control, hand hygiene, PPE, and biomedical waste protocols.
• Maintain sample quality and avoid hemolysis, contamination, or wrong tube usage.
• Guide patients before and after sample collection.
• Handle difficult veins, pediatric, elderly, and anxious patients carefully.
• Maintain collection records, sample logs, and handover documentation.
• Coordinate with laboratory, accessioning, logistics, and front office teams.
• Report sample collection issues or patient reactions immediately.
• Ensure safe, accurate, and patient-friendly blood collection service.
