Job Description

Experienced Registrar / Senior Registrar – Microbiology responsible for supporting clinical and laboratory microbiology services, including diagnostic testing, pathogen identification, infection control support, and reporting of laboratory results. Skilled in handling microbiological investigations, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and quality assurance processes. Adept at collaborating with clinicians, infection control teams, and laboratory staff to ensure accurate diagnosis, timely reporting, and compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory guidelines.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise microbiological investigations including culture, staining, and identification of pathogens.
  • Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpret laboratory results accurately.
  • Review and validate microbiology reports before release to clinicians.
  • Assist in diagnosis of infectious diseases through laboratory correlation and clinical input.
  • Maintain laboratory records, documentation, and quality control logs as per standards.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety protocols, infection control measures, and laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate with clinicians for sample requirements, reporting, and result interpretation.
  • Support infection control committee activities and hospital infection surveillance programs.
  • Monitor quality assurance processes and participate in external quality assessment schemes.
  • Assist in outbreak investigation and epidemiological studies within the hospital setting.
  • Supervise and guide junior staff, technicians, and laboratory trainees.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious specimens and materials.
  • Participate in laboratory audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
  • Support research activities, clinical studies, and academic microbiology programs.
  • Stay updated with advancements in microbiology diagnostics and antimicrobial resistance trends.
